Interview in Lürzer’s Archive about “creativity in the time of Covide-19”
For me, working from home started before the lockdown (or "Circuit Breaker"
as we call it here in Singapore). Being home-based was something that I've always
been interested in, and I was excited to bid my desk and the office's meeting rooms goodbye.
My typical day working from home begins with a daily check-in Zoom call with the team,
followed by whatever's on my work schedule for the day. Recently, we've spent most of
our time pitching, and technology has certainly made a big difference
in enabling us to collaborate over great distances.
When it comes to creative work, although it's easier to focus, the COVID
pandemic has brought with it challenges (e.g. shooting restrictions) that we have
to get creative and workaround. It's times like these when we need to remind
ourselves that a good idea isn't defined by a certain way of execution,
and as a creative, it is our job to find the best solution that preserves the idea's integrity.
All in all, would I choose to work from home longterm? It's difficult to say.
I do miss the synergy of a good face-to-face brainstorming session.
The kind that makes you lose track of time.
It's just not the same with a screen in-between. I'm old-school that way, you might say.
Who knows what the future holds. I for one don't have an answer.
This pandemic has redefined our entire way of life, and I'm sure that this
discussion will continue in our industry for years to come.
But que sera sera. I sure do miss going on coffee breaks
with my colleagues in the office.
